What is fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread muscle pain, fatigue, sleep problems and increased pain sensitivity. Many patients also experience headaches, depression and concentration difficulties.
Although there is no cure for fibromyalgia, research and practical experience show that massage can be an effective part of treatment to manage the symptoms.
How does massage help with fibromyalgia?
Massage treatment for fibromyalgia works in several ways:
- Pain relief: Reduces muscle tension and trigger points that amplify pain
- Better sleep: Relaxes the nervous system and improves sleep quality
- Increased blood circulation: Improves oxygenation and removes waste products from muscles
- Reduced stress: Lowers stress hormones and increases the body's natural pain-relieving substances
- Increased mobility: Makes it easier to move and rehabilitate the body
Our approach to fibromyalgia treatment
At Massage Musicon, we have specialized in treating fibromyalgia patients. Our experienced therapist Keld has worked with many fibromyalgia patients over the years and achieved documented results.
The treatment program
A typical fibromyalgia treatment program with us consists of:
Phase 1: Intensive treatment (4-6 weeks)
We start with 2 weekly treatments to create momentum. In this phase we work to:
- Reduce the most burdensome pain
- Improve sleep quality
- Release chronic muscle tension
- Identify particularly sensitive areas
Phase 2: Tapering (4-8 weeks)
We gradually reduce the frequency to 1 weekly treatment, while we:
- Maintain the achieved improvement
- Work with deeper lying tensions
- Optimize the treatment technique to your needs
Phase 3: Maintenance
After the intensive program, many continue with maintenance treatments every 2-4 weeks to:
- Prevent relapse
- Handle periods with increased symptoms
- Preserve quality of life and functional level
What can you expect after treatment?
After intensive massage treatment for fibromyalgia, your body will normally react. This is natural and a sign that the body is processing the treatment:
- Flu-like symptoms in the evening
- Night sweats and restlessness the same night
- Increased thirst
Important: These symptoms normally disappear the next morning, and you will typically notice a positive change. Remember to drink plenty of water after treatment!
Your body processes the treatment for approximately 24 hours afterwards. There must be at least 48 hours between treatments for optimal effect.
Documented results
Many of our fibromyalgia patients have experienced:
- Significant reduction in daily pain
- Markedly improved sleep quality
- Increased energy and surplus in everyday life
- Ability to resume activities they had given up
- Reduced need for pain medication
We follow up on your progress during the treatment program and adjust the treatment according to your specific needs and reactions.

Frequently asked questions about fibromyalgia treatment
Can massage cure my fibromyalgia?
No, massage cannot cure fibromyalgia as it is a chronic condition. But massage can remove a large part of the pain, improve your night sleep and give you the energy to rehabilitate your body. Many patients experience significantly better quality of life.
Does the massage treatment hurt?
We always adjust the pressure to your pain threshold. In the beginning, the treatment can be intense, but we work within what you can tolerate. Many experience that the pain threshold gradually improves through the treatment program.
How many treatments do I need?
An optimal programme is 2 treatments per week for 4-6 weeks, after which we gradually taper off — but every treatment helps, and more frequent visits reduce setbacks and keep the body on the right track. The total need varies from person to person, and we evaluate continuously together with you.
When can I expect results?
Most people experience improvements after 3-4 treatments. Some notice a difference already after the first treatment, while others need a little longer. We follow your development closely and adjust the treatment as needed.
Can I combine massage with my current treatment?
Yes, massage can easily be combined with medication and other treatment. We recommend that you inform your doctor that you are starting massage treatment, so it can be included in the overall treatment plan.
